Panoramic view of the quays and historic centre of Bordeaux

Experience Bordeaux like a local.

A note from your hosts

Bordeaux in four chapters.

From Les Pénates, Bordeaux unfolds in four chapters: neighbourhood life and its artisans, the UNESCO-listed historic centre, the vineyard roads and the fresh air of Arcachon Bay. As soon as you book, we share our guide to the addresses and routes we love, so you can experience the region like a local and at your own pace.

Cyclists along the paths of Parc Bordelais

On foot

Experience the neighbourhood like a Bordeaux local.

Begin with a walk beneath the trees of Parc Bordelais, then follow our food tour to meet the artisans, food shops and restaurants around Barrière du Médoc. It is a first day at neighbourhood level, at the pace of those who live here.

The historic centre and quays of Bordeaux

By tram

UNESCO-listed Bordeaux.

Take the tram into the centre to explore the quays, Place de la Bourse and the streets of the historic heart. Continue with two landmarks: Bassins des Lumières for its immersive experience and Cité du Vin to explore the world’s wine cultures.

Bordeaux vines and great growth estates

A day trip

Four faces of the vineyards.

Choose the iconic village of Saint-Émilion, Margaux and the Médoc’s great growths, Pessac-Léognan and the classified Graves estates, or Sauternes and its unique sweet wines. We help you shape the route that best matches your interests.

The cabanes tchanquées on Arcachon Bay

An escape

Arcachon or Cap-Ferret.

Around the Dune du Pilat, the bay reveals its villages and oyster cabins. Choose between two distinct sides: Arcachon, more urban and elegant, or Cap-Ferret, wilder and more secluded, with pine forest, ocean and oyster tasting.

The garden and pool at Les Pénates after a day in Bordeaux

Coming home

Return to the calm of the garden.

As the light fades over Bordeaux, it is a pleasure to return to the neighbourhood’s gentle pace. In warmer months, a swim in the pool, a few pages on a sun lounger or a moment beneath the garden trees is enough to slow everything down. The day ends softly, the house becomes a retreat again, ready for tomorrow.
