Les Pénates Bordelaises is an adults-only boutique guesthouse near Parc Bordelais, in a calm yet lively residential district. Opened by Sylvain in 2020, it offers five 28 m² rooms for two guests, with high-quality bedding, private shower rooms, air conditioning and self check-in.

Three rooms are in the Bordeaux townhouse and two open directly onto the garden. The shared lounge is designed as a genuine living space and leads to a heated outdoor pool, open from 15 May to 15 September, from 10 am to 8 pm.

The identity of the house owes much to its hosts. Maria Luisa, a Sicilian-born conductor and pianist, created the abundant garden and brings music into the house through lessons, rehearsals and intimate concerts. Sylvain, a former tech entrepreneur, traveller and heritage enthusiast, shares favourite routes and Bordeaux addresses. Works by Jofo, Mr Poulet and Fred Rush Collin reinforce the artistic character. Accueil Vélo certification adds secure storage and services for cyclists: an intimate address combining the spirit of a boutique hotel with the freedom of a private home.

In Bordeaux’s residential Parc Bordelais district, Les Pénates Bordelaises offers personal hospitality somewhere between a boutique hotel and a private home. Sylvain opened the guesthouse in 2020 after fifteen years in technology entrepreneurship. With Maria Luisa, he created an adults-only urban retreat built around calm, independence and genuine encounters.

The house has five 28 m² rooms for two guests. Three are in the traditional Bordeaux building; two sit at garden level beside the pool. Every room has a 160 × 200 cm bed, a private shower room and air conditioning. The large shared lounge opens outdoors and gives guests space for coffee, a simple meal or work.

The property’s personality comes from its complementary hosts. Sicilian-born Maria Luisa is an internationally active conductor and pianist. She designed the garden as a living ecosystem and fills the house with lessons, rehearsals and intimate concerts. Sylvain, a traveller with a passion for wine, history and heritage, shares neighbourhood recommendations and vineyard routes. Local works by Jofo, Mr Poulet and Fred Rush Collin underline the role of creativity.

The shared outdoor pool is heated and open from 15 May to 15 September, daily from 10 am to 8 pm. Accueil Vélo certification provides secure storage, a repair kit and cyclist services. Breakfast made with local produce is available on reservation. Direct booking, self check-in by personal code and individual advice complete a stay designed to experience Bordeaux like a local.

A story in two voices

A musician, an entrepreneur and the wish to share their Bordeaux.

Born in Sicily, Maria Luisa pursues an international career as a conductor and pianist. A multilingual cook and gardening enthusiast, she imagined the poolside garden as a living ecosystem for flowers, herbs, trees, birds and insects.

After fifteen years in technology entrepreneurship, Sylvain opened Les Pénates in 2020. A traveller with a passion for wine, heritage and history, he readily shares neighbourhood addresses, vineyard routes and advice for exploring Bordeaux.

Their joint project balances the comfort and privacy of a boutique hotel with the personality, conversation and freedom of a home.

Art & music

A house brought to life by creativity.

Maria Luisa teaches piano at Les Pénates. The lounge and garden occasionally host rehearsals and intimate concerts. Works by Jofo, Mr Poulet and Fred Rush Collin connect the hall to Bordeaux’s local art scene.

For a special event, the house can also become a temporary gallery or a meeting place for artists, travellers and Bordeaux residents.
