Ride from Bordeaux
Long-distance journey, urban ride or a day among the vines: choose your direction and keep Les Pénates as your base.
The route crosses Bordeaux before joining the Roger-Lapébie trail. The Créon–Bordeaux stage is 25 km; heading south, Bordeaux–Hostens is 53 km.
From Gare Saint-Jean, follow the Garonne towards Latresne and the Roger-Lapébie trail. The official Bordeaux–Créon stage is about 23 km.
View the official stage ↗Bordeaux sits slightly away from La Vélodyssée itself. The Bordeaux–Lacanau greenway connects with EuroVelo 1 in Lacanau, so we do not claim to be directly on its route.
Plan Bordeaux–Lacanau ↗Cycle to Gare Saint-Jean, then take the train to Arcachon for a day around the bay. Seasonal bicycle reservations may be compulsory: check the current rules.
Check regional train + bicycle conditions ↗From Gare de Blanquefort, three loops of 9, 23 and 29 km explore the urban vineyards. For Saint-Émilion, combine a regional train to Libourne with the return journey by bicycle.
Parc Bordelais, the historic centre, Garonne quays, Darwin and Cité du Vin make an ideal pannier-free day. Build your loop with the Métropole’s official map.

You do not have to choose between touring and exploring: stop for one night or keep the same room while discovering the region by bicycle and train.
Arrive late if needed, store your bicycle securely, use the repair kit and leave your cycling clothes with us. The next morning, you set off clean, rested and without a trip to the laundrette.
Spend a day in the centre, along the quays and at Cité du Vin. On your return, enjoy the calm of the neighbourhood, garden and heated seasonal pool.
Add a day on Arcachon Bay or in the Médoc and Saint-Émilion vineyards, combining bicycle and regional trains from Gare Saint-Jean.
